Dr Mendelson recently presented on his 20 years experience with the Advanced Supratarsal Technique of Upper Lid Blepharoplasty to an International audience. This was a combined Meeting of the Australasian Socitey of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons and the Atlanta Oculoplastic Symposium jointly held in Australia and Atlanta using satellite communication of the Presenters from both sides of the world.
The purpose of Dr Mendelson's presentation was to highlight the degree of surgical control inherent in the supratarsal technique of upper lid blepharoplsty. His technique minimises the requirement for skin excision, as the emphasis is on shaping of the upper lid fold. At the same time it allows the surgeon control of the two segments of the lid, the lower pretarsal and the upper infra brow segment. The incision is short and not visible while the correction of the fold and the smoothness of the skin above the lashes is permanent.
Results shown in males and females in both younger and older age groups were in the long term shown to confirm the maintenance of the result more than ten years later. The recent rechnique of lipoinflitration to the hollowed upper segment of the lid was also demonstrated with an anatomical explanation of the fat into the preseptal fat pad.
